  • What’s the difference between a coordinator and a planner?
A wedding planner or full-service planner is there with you from the beginning to help you plan every step of the way. They assist with researching and booking a venue, photographer, band or DJ, florist, and catering. A wedding coordinator will be there with you for your rehearsal, wedding day and any other wedding related events you decide they are needed. They don't make major decisions and are there to assist you and manage your timeline on your wedding day, to make sure everything goes according to plan or plan B.
  • Do I need to invite my coordinator to my rehearsal dinner?
If you are good friends with your coordinator, you can certainly invite them to the rehearsal dinner but it’s not necessary.
  • Do I need a Day of Wedding Coordinator?
It's depends on the how you picture your wedding day. Do you want to relax with your bridesmaids and get ready, or run all over the venue every time someone needs something? A wedding coordinator can greet and manage your vendors, decorate your venue, direct your guests on where to go, put the finishing touches on your reception, and take care of any issues that arise. They are the liaison between you, your venue, and your vendors. They will execute your plan so your wedding day is how you envisioned it.
  • Can I have my coordinator help with my wedding weekend or other events such as my bridal shower, bachelorette/bachelor party, or Sunday brunch?
You definitely can and it's a good idea to discuss this during the consultation.
  • Do I need to tip my wedding coordinator?
There isn’t a custom saying you must tip your coordinator but if they did an amazing job, it’s a bonus for them to let them know how well they did. If you don’t have extra to tip them, leaving a review on Google or their website is also a bonus.
  • What are the advantages of having a coordinator versus a family member or friend help with my big day?
Some advantages to having a wedding coordinator is your working with a professional and someone who has done this before. They have probably worked with some of the vendors you're using so they're familiar with vendor setup, needs etc. They are organized so they can quickly resolve issues and keep your timeline on track. They should review your vendor contracts so they are familiar with all services to be provided that day. A friend or family member is a good idea if you're on a really tight budget but it's not recommended. It can put additional stress on that friend or family member and they won't be able to enjoy the day with you, especially if they part of your wedding party. They may not be able to handle certain issues that arise and that can make things uncomfortable for everyone.
  • How much should I budget for a wedding coordinator?
Some industry experts say the average range is 10% -15% of your total wedding budget. The amount you spend on a coordinator can vary due to time spent, services rendered, and coordinator experience.
  • Should I include my wedding coordinator in my meal count?
Usually if your coordinator is with you for the entire day, it’s a good idea to include them and some of your other vendors in your meal count. Also check the stipulations of the contract to see if providing a meal is a requirement.
  • My venue has a coordinator. Do I still need a wedding coordinator?
That's great if your venue has a coordinator. Just double check what services the venue coordinator provides. Some venues, the coordinator is there to schedule events, turn the lights on, arrange tables, take out trash, direct their staff etc. They are not there to assist you, your guests, your vendors, or provide all the additional tasks a personal wedding coordinator can provide. Ask questions during your venue consultation to make sure you're getting the service you expect. You can download my Day of Coordinator Checklist to help guide your questions with your venue to see what services they provide.
  • If I have a DIY wedding, can I still hire a wedding coordinator?
Absolutely! It doesn’t matter if you planned everything yourself or had help from family members or friends. A coordinator will be there to assist you, your bridal party, vendors, and guests the day of your wedding.
  • How will a wedding coordinator help me?
Your wedding coordinator will partner with you to execute your wedding plan. From the day you hire your coordinator to the week of your wedding they will meet with you to go over all the details of your wedding. This is where they look for gaps in scheduling, start working with your vendors, look for little details you may have missed and help you finalize your timeline.
  • I am having a destination wedding and hosting a reception at home for my family and friends. Do I still need a wedding coordinator?
The ceremony may be over, but you still want to have a great time with your family and friends to celebrate your marriage. A coordinator will be there to assist you with setting up your reception space, ensuring you get the photos you want, greeting and managing your vendors, assisting you, your family, your guests and helping with cleanup.
